Jake's Place, a 30A beaches favorite for 22 years:
When I bought Jake's in 2000, I was expecting to greet into this world my son, Tucker, who has grown up to love Grayton. I had property in Seagrove Beach, just down the road, for about 10 years before that. But I knew my heart was in Grayton, so when I had the chance to buy a sweet little beach cottage, painted bright green (inside and out!), and sorely in need of TLC, I jumped at the chance. A LOT of hard work, elbow grease (big thanks to my Dad), and 20 years, two hurricanes, an oil spill and a pandemic later, we know that we're less a part of Grayton than Grayton is a part of us. So, when you walk through the pine and live oak covered, oyster-shelled streets of Old Grayton Beach, you get the feeling that things don't change very fast here. Which is exactly the way I wanted to raise my son. When you're on the beach here at sunset, well, it's simply timeless.
By the way, Jake was my Aussie blue heeler, who was here before Tuck. Hence Jake's Place. Jake has been chasing heavenly cattle for several years now.
Tucked In, a new, St. George Island Florida treasure:
At St. George Island: Our newest adventure lies about 100 miles east of the Beaches of 30A --- St. George Island is a barrier island just off the coast at Apalachicola. Part of the "Forgotten Coast", SGI is an unspoiled, uncrowded strand of beaches, with plenty of night life and restaurants close by on the Island and in Apalachicola. But at night, you can sit on the porch and see no lights whatsoever. This completely renovated "down to the stud" house will become my Florida home for most of the year, but we plan to share it with guests from March until November each year. A three bedroom, two bath beach rental that is an easy 2 minute walk to an uncrowded beach access, Tucked In will surely become a favorite vacation rental for the many guests who have enjoyed Jake's and Grayton over the years; the same funky vibe will continue on the Island.
New in 2020: we added a nearly 600 sq ft sun deck off the back of house, with chaise lounge chairs, eat out dining, soft sounds of Gulf waves, and sweet Gulf breezes.
